Oppo-pinion Time.  What wheels should I hypothetically get.

Hey everyone, hope you Tuesday has been going well. I have decided I want some input from my fellow Opponauts. So here is my dilemna, I have stock rims for my 06 WRX that have been beadblasted but never powdercoated like I intended for. They have a bit of curb rash and need that repaired before powdercoating. I also could go check out the new Tire Rack center in the Twin Cities and order them that way as well. I’m trying to keep this under $200 a wheel before tires and open to any color other then gray. I am also completely open to any other suggestions from you guys, EXCEPT FOR RPF1's, I don’t like them at all. So here are my ideas:

1. Powdercoat my stock rims - Color ideas (keep in mind I do like black wheels, but am open to suggestions)

2. Enkei TS9 Wheels

Kinja'd!!!

3. Sparco Asseto Gara

Kinja'd!!!

4. Motegi MR131 Tracklite

Kinja'd!!!

5. Enkei EV5

Kinja'd!!!

6. Kosei K4R

Kinja'd!!!

7. Kosei K8R

Kinja'd!!!

And if you have summer tire suggetions for me as well, just chime in. I want something that will last a few summers and handles well. I was thinking the Ventus V12 or S-04 Pole Positions. Again, keep it reasonable under 150 a tire.

Thanks everyone for looking and for the suggestions. I am looking forward to seeing them.

Probably too expensive, but I always thought these looked great on a LOT o cars, especially the WRX/STi as it also highlights their rally pedigree:

I think the Motegi in the bronze would look solid

Too many spokes and I am sure they would be prohibitively expensive for me.

Yeah, they look pretty sweet, I’m just not sure how I feel about the 5 large spokes.

I was looking at the Asetto Gara and also Konig Runlite recently for my Forester. Both are good choices.

Kinja'd!!!

My favorite right now is the BBS SR, but it’s probably out of your price range.

Are you willing to go up to 18"? The ‘06 has a 5x100 pattern, so it will fit the current OEM Enkeis from the Foz XT which is what I got. (Here’s mine... I couldn’t find a picture of these in a WRX but somebody has to have done it by now.) You can finds these refurbished for around $150 per wheel. Subaru wants something nuts like $400 each new, but all OEM wheel prices are like that.

Kinja'd!!!

You can have my 17x7 steelies with TPMS in them cheap, my wife wants them gone!

My wife has a base model 2016 Forester so if I ever find a cheap deal on those Enkeis they are for her.

Keep an eye on CL. I scored mine with less than 1,000 miles on them from a guy who decided to make an off-road rig out of his new XT. Gotta love people who don’t care about their warranties.

Remeber the trifecta of wheels:

Strong

Light

Chrap

You can only pick two.

Black wheels don’t exactly pop. It doesn’t matter what the spokes look like. They’re lost in the blackness. Silver always works because the tire and wheelwell create contrast with the wheel, regardless of the car colour. I didn’t think silver would work as well as it does in my BRZ, but it’s a lot better than the stock black wheels.

Those are 17 x 7 Tecnocast Corsia. They are from the late 90s I believe.

Don’t care about lightness, I’m not a track day bro, and I don’t think I’ll start. I’d have to go to BIR.

BIR isn’t too far assuming you are in the MSP area. If i wasn’t so damn busy this summer with work travel I’d take the M3 there at least once.

It’s the wrong opinion. But it is yours.

This is why they invented plastidip, paint, and powdercoating.

I dig the Konis Runlites, was looking into a set for my 04 WRX wagon. They checked my boxes: lots of spokes, good width, come in gray, not prohibitively heavy, affordable, and most importantly they one have one set of bolt pattern holes. I absolutely cannot stand wheels with two patterns (always 5x100/5x114.3 for our cars...). Never pulled the trigger cuz I don’t neeeed wheels.

You can actually really feel the increased eagerness that comes with lower weight on the road as well, provided the difference is more than 2 or 3 lbs/wheel.

More on topic: GOOOOOOOOOLD!

I live up on the Iron Range but it isn’t out of the way at all, my in-laws live in the area. I’d rather start doing some autocross then going to a full on track day. But since the nearest autocross’ are in the cities and there isn’t anything up by Duluth at all, I am out of luck.

I’m sure that is true, I could tell the difference going to a lightweight crank pulley. Unfortunately, gold seems to be out of the picture. My wife just thinks gold wheels just look dirty.

But rally car! Show her this color range, and tell her you’d like blue or green ones, I’m sure she’ll suddenly find gold more acceptable: http://www.ozracing.com/wheels/oz-raci…

Or just get a nice dark colored wheel and call it a day. I personally think dark bronze is an amazing wheel color for just about every car, but anthracite and gunmetal will look sharp as well.
